Choosing a Mascara

As long as I can remember we ladies have been obsessed with our lashes. We want long, thick, sexy lashes and don’t know where to begin. There are thousands of products available to us on the market which can cause our heads to spin. Which product to choose and why is what we need to determine in order to achieve the look we want.

Let’s start with how to choose a mascara that’s right for you. The first thing you need to do is assess your actual lashes. You are looking for length, and fullness. You also need to determine if your lashes might be brittle which will be evident if they feel stiff when free from makeup.
  • Your lashes are short and full – Choose mascara that will separate and add length. Using thickening mascara will only make them look short and stubby. Try Cheryl Stuart Lash Excellence mascara
  • Your lashes are long and sparse – Choose mascara that will thicken. When you already have long lashes all they need is to be built up a bit with a thickener. You may also use a lash conditioner under your mascara to help build thickness. Try Cheryl Stuart XLXL mascara
  • Your lashes are short and sparse – Theses are a bit tricky because you want to look for mascara that will lengthen as well as slowly build up the lashes without it getting clumpy resulting in chubby, chunky, short lashes. Try Cheryl Stuart Lush mascara
  • Your lashes are long and full – Well aren’t you lucky! You can choose from several different products depending on whether or not you want more length, fullness, or both. Try any one, or a combination of Cheryl Stuart mascaras.

Waterproof Mascara

There are a few things I want to tell you about waterproof mascaras. There is a time and place for them but I wouldn’t recommend it for daily use as it will dry out your lashes causing breakage, loss of lashes, and brittle lashes.

Some of my clients work in conditions where they might be more susceptible to having their mascara run, like a dental hygienist. Some clients complain about mascara that smugges on them regardless of what they do. If you use water resistant mascara instead of waterproof mascara you should have success. You can also try a light dusting of powder under your eyes to help absorb oils that might be breaking your mascara down.

There are a few things you can do to prevent your lashes from becoming dehydrated if you use waterproof mascara daily. You should purchase a lash conditioner that you will put on at night after you have removed your makeup. Try Cheryl Stuart Lash Conditioner.

Using a lash conditioner will help to restore some moisture to your lashes. I would then suggest switching your mascara to water based formula when you are off from work to give your lashes a break.

There is no harm in using waterproof mascara for special occasions when you think you might cry, and you simply don’t want black streaks down your face.

If for some reason waterproof mascara is the only way for you to go you should consider one of my favorite products that we sell at Cheryl Stuart Cosmetics called Revitalash. It will not only help your lashes grow to new lengths, but it will also condition your lashes and keep them in good condition. My Favorite by far!!!!!!

Mascara Wands

There are so many different shapes and sizes of mascara wands all claiming to do something different. The original Christmas tree wand is still available and will always feel the most comfortable to me. Recently though like many of you no doubt I’m trying thin flexible wands, curved and colorful wands, and anything that might offer me the look I desire. I can tell you that the brush definitely makes a difference in the application of the mascara. If you can handle the change from your normal mascara wand then follow my advice and grab the product best suited for your lashes based on the information above.

Tube and Fiber mascara

In all honesty I’ve only played around with these products here and there and they never appealed to me. Tube mascara is a product that coats your lashes and comes off in pieces that look like little tubes. Fiber mascara is a bit messy as it has tiny pieces of fiber that you layer building up the lash as you go. You will find that you will need to dust away any remaining flurries from your face. For me it’s too much work for little reward. I recommend trying both of these products for yourself if you are into experimenting with new products, it could be a perfect fit.

Like with any product we sometimes need to try a few to get the best fit. Don’t hesitate to use two different mascara formulas if it gives you the look you want. Read those packages and ask questions when an artist is available. Happy lashes to all!!!!!!!!!
